白猿の湯
KITAKAMI · IWATE · JAPAN
A seasonal toji inn deep in the mountains of northern Japan—where naturally flowing hot springs, self-catered living and unhurried time still belong together.
For some travellers, the name Geto carries a modern cultural echo. Here, it is first and foremost the name of a real mountain valley and an ancient hot-spring place in Kitakami.
Legends trace the waters to a white monkey healing its wounds, or to the Buddhist monk Jikaku Daishi in the ninth century. Long before today’s journeys, people came here to bathe, recover and stay.

02 / THE WATER
Spring water flows directly into two large indoor baths. It is neither diluted nor artificially heated, allowing guests to experience the water as it emerges from the earth.
